Maybe I haven't been paying enough attention to the articles on Jalopnik about this car, but the headline on Wired certainly caught my attention.

Only problem with Gorilla glass is that once you get a chip, it is much more likely to break, which is probably why they only used it on the rear.

why use it at all? Im having a hard (get it) time coming up with a reason for a durable glass that isn't being used in a location that requires durability....for weight savings? (since gorilla glass is typically thinner)

As the article says, it "reduces weight, increases strength, and reduces cabin noise."

Not gonna lie, if you had a mid-engined car with a window over the engine made of Gorilla Glass with a smartphone-type device running on it that could display stuff over the engine for diagnostics, showing you where the various fluid caps are and other such things like levels thereof, that would be totally awesome.
I expect it on the 4th-generation Audi R8!

I get the weight part, but regarding strength and cabin noise? Not sure how it would but who am I to argue.

Because they say it does and they're German engineers! It therefore does.

Your screen name reminds me of being in Port Arthur, Texas last summer with a friend. She kept wanting to go to the "Janis Joplin Museum" to see her "Porch". I could not figure it out, "why would they have her porch on display" I thought.
Turns out it is a replica of the psychedelic 356 Porsche she owned.

Hopefully it works better than it does on my phone.

Don't drop your BMW off of the bar.

Yes. Also, you can use your smartphone inside it.

If I did that, I'd destroy not one, but two smartphones!
